In June 2023, two pro running backs brought a free camp to Kirkland and put more than 250 kids on the field at Juanita High School. One of them was my high school teammate. The sign-ups ran on a website and a capped Eventbrite page, built in about a month.
The short answer
Phins Frenzy is a free youth football camp at Juanita High School in Kirkland, hosted by pro running backs Salvon Ahmed and Myles Gaskin. In 2023 the camp had the players and the sponsors, and about a month to fill it. A simple website and a capped Eventbrite page handled the sign-ups: all 283 spots went in 48 hours, and more than 250 kids showed up.

How it started
Salvon Ahmed and Myles Gaskin shared a backfield for two years at the University of Washington and were reunited on the Miami Dolphins. Salvon grew up in Kirkland and played at Juanita High School. So did I. We were teammates in 2016 and 2017, him at running back and me at quarterback, and as juniors we made the deepest playoff run Juanita had seen in 25 years.

In 2023 the two of them brought the camp back to Kirkland for its second year. Kids 5 to 14, no cost, pizza, a camp shirt, a DJ, and two pros running drills on the field Salvon grew up on. They had the players and the sponsors, about a month, and no website or way to sign up yet.

The system behind the sign-ups
- A website families could trust. What the camp is, who it is for, what to bring, where to park, and one button to sign up.
- Registration that ran itself. A free Eventbrite page capped at 283, so the camp could not overbook, and every family got a confirmation the moment they signed up.
- The posters. Big Web Labs designed the announcement and the registration poster.
- Follow-up emails with the date, the time, the parking and what to bring, sent before camp day.
- Check-in on the day, run off the Eventbrite list.
We made the posters, built the site and the registration, and sent the emails. The hosts and their sponsors did the rest.

Camp day
Before the first drill, Salvon gathered every kid on the field and talked to them. I played on that field with him. Watching him stand on it in front of more than 250 kids, their parents in the stands, is the moment I keep.
“Coming back to Juanita and seeing that many kids on the field we grew up on meant everything. It took a lot of people to make it happen, from our sponsors to friends like JD. We just got to show up and coach.”

Why we do this
Salvon is my teammate, and when a teammate asks, you help. The other reason is the job Legroom does now: the players brought the talent, and a small system took the busywork off their plate so they could coach. That’s the job we do for small businesses. Run a camp or a league that needs the same kind of help? Nominate them.
